Hudson Derby Stables
New riders are expected to groom and tack their horses as part of their lesson. Once the rider feels comfortable with tacking up, they will arrive 20 minutes prior to their lesson to prepare their horse.
After your lesson, riders are expected to cool and groom their horses, maintain their tack & grooming area.
We offer practice rides for riders that are competent at walk/trot/canter. (An instructor must be present, and jumping is not permissible during practice rides.)
To cancel a lesson, the rider must contact the instructor 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. If the lesson is canceled the day of the lesson...the rider may be responsible for the cost.
We encourage riders to participate in our prepaid lesson packages for their savings!
We have three basic requirements...helmet, long pants, and boots. Below are the specifics:
Hudson Derby Stables attends local rated & schooling shows during the spring and summer. You must be riding in our lesson program in order to be considered to attend shows.
Talk to your instructor if you are interested; they can give you details as to the time and financial commitments involved. We try our best to keep our costs reasonable so more students are able to experience horse showing!
We have a few lesson spots available for new students! Call us directly at 508-566-5450 to set up your riding lesson.
Classical riding is taught with a focus on strong horsemanship as the foundation of any riding style. We are Hunter Jumper focused but riders in all disciplines are welcome. Our program emphasizes safety and horsemanship in a positive, relaxed atmosphere. Lessons focus on building the relationship and communication between horse and rider.
We devote individual attention to each student in our program. We believe it is necessary for students to learn not only the "what to do" aspect of riding but the "why" as well.
Lessons are structured to develop skills based on each rider's ability and ambitions. For students with their own horses, lessons focus on both the horse and rider to develop the skills of each for a well rounded team.
Students are encouraged to participate in rated and/or non rated schooling shows, as well as clinics.
